A Huntingburg man was taken into custody Labor Day evening on several OWI-related charges.

Jasper police say they received a call from what they describe as a concerned citizen about a possible impaired driver heading eastbound on State Road 56 heading towards Jasper.

A JPD officer did observe the reported vehicle traveling left of center through the intersection of State Road 56 and St. Charles Street.

JPD says the SUV also swerved and almost hit a mailbox on the south side of the road.

The SUV was then stopped by JPD. 26-year old Jose Ramirez of Huntingburg had been drinking but he refused to submit to a chemical test. After getting a search warrant, a blood draw then taken at Memorial Hospital showed that Ramirez had a .064 percent blood alcohol content.

During the traffic stop and followup investigation, JPD says Ramirez provided a false date of birth. It was also determined Ramirez had two prior Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Ever Receiving a License convictions.

Monday night, Ramirez was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Ever Receiving a License (with prior convictions), and Refusal to Identify Self.
