Reward Increased To Find; Convict Catalytic Converter Theives

Reward-Offered_t580 copyA third incident of a catalytic converter being stolen has prompted a local car dealership to join the local Community Strike Force Against Crime in offering a $3500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the crimes.

Jasper police say the latest theft of a catalytic converter happened sometime within the last 10 days at Ruxer Ford on U. S. 231 South in Jasper.

Employees at the local dealership say a catalytic converter was taken from a 2014 Ford E350 pickup truck.

Jasper police say the first two catalytic converter thefts were reported the weekend of August 9th and 10th. One from a parked truck at Audio World at 710 West Sixth Street; the other from a truck at Hedinger Beverage Company at 950 South St. Charles Street.

JPD detective Sgt. Rick Chambers says catalytic converters are attractive to thieves because they contain platinum, a metal Chambers says is more valuable than gold.

Chambers says Ruxer Ford is now offering an additional $3000 to the initial $500 reward offered by the Community Strike Force Against Crime to find and convict those responsible for the thefts.

Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to call the Jasper Police Department at 812-482-2255 or you can call JPD’s anonymous tip line at 812-481-COPS (2677).
