“Runaway” Van Crosses U. S. 231; Crashes Into Gas Pump

UPDATE: Huntingburg police say the van that crashed into a gas pump at the Huck’s store Friday belonged to Carolyn Willis of Jasper. HPD says Willis’ van was parked at the CVS Pharmacy across the street (U.S. 231) at about 11:40 because of what police describe as “mechanical faults.” HPD says an unidentified man was trying to fix the van. When doing do, the van’s parking gear disengaged causing the van to roll backwards across the CVS parking lot, down an embankment; crossing U. S. 231 and crashing into one of the Huck’s gas pumps.

There were no injuries. Damage to the van is an estimated $3000. Replacement cost of the diesel gas pump is an estimated $9000. And damage to a car parked near the pump that had a rear view mirror knocked off; about $1000.
