Othmar J. Ebert, 96, Ferdinand

Othmar EbertOthmar J. Ebert, 96, of Ferdinand, died Tuesday (August 19) at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. He was born in Ferdinand July 13, 1918, to Joseph and Mary (Rahman) Ebert. He married Hilda T. Schaefer May 22, 1945, in St. Meinrad Archabbey’s church.

Othmar retired from farming and DMI Furniture. He was a member of St. Meinrad American Legion Post No. 366, The Farm Bureau, Ferdinand Senior Citizens, St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality, and was a life member of St. Meinrad Knights Of Columbus Council 5599. He was a director for Perry-Spencer Rural Telephone Cooperative for 15 years. He enjoyed playing cards and farming.

Surviving are his wife, Hilda T. Ebert; a son, Sylvan Ebert and wife Linda of Greenwood; five daughters, Norma Murray and husband Jim of Kokomo, Diane Balbach and husband David of Dale, Marlene Braunecker and husband Gene of Huntingburg, Sandy Meyer and husband Steve of Lexington, Ky., and Terri Carson and husband Jeff of Carmel; a brother, Anthony Ebert of Ferdinand; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Amelia Laake, and three brothers, Edwin, Robert and infant Raymond Ebert.

Services at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366 will conduct military graveside rites.
