HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ROUNDUP FOR TUESDAY (August 19)

The Northeast Dubois volleyball team won its first match under new head coach Jolynne Stackhouse Cruz by downing Crawford County, 3-1 (25-16, 25-14, 25-27, and 25-13)

Senior Kendra Jacob had 15 kills to lead the Lady Jeeps; Adison Denu had 13. Kennedy Neukem had 35 assists for the match and enna Stemle led NDHS with 26 digs.

Ferdinand, Forest Park downed Evansville Harrison to open the new season 3-0 (25-22, 25-15 and 25-19).

Lydia Lange led the Lady Rangers with 12 kills.

And, Southridge lost its volleyball season opener at home to Washington 3-1 (19-25, 18-25, 25-23, 18-25).

Kayla Voegerl had 11 kills, Sydney Altmeyer and Nikki Fischer each had 7 kills for the Lady Raiders.  Sydney Altmeyer had 4 blocks; Grace Kappner had 14 assists and Kathryn Brewer had 9 assists for Southridge now 0-1 for the 2014.   Maddie Lubbehusen had 20 digs and Kayla Voegerl had 15 digs for the Lady Raiders.
Southridge’s Junior Varsity squad salvaged a split beating Washington 25-19 and 25-15.

Kenzie Young and Karli Meyer each had 5 kills for young Lady Raiders; Morgan Stapleton had 5 assists.
BOYS TENNIS 

Northeast Dubois Boys Tennis goes to 2-0 on the new season defeating Southridge 5-0 in a match moved to  Dubois as Southridge’s courts continue undergoing renovations.

At #1 singles, Patrick Betz (ND) defeated Corbin Neu (SR) 6-3, 6-0; #2 singles Jaxon Denu (ND) defeated Mitch Steinkamp (SR)  6-4, 6-0; and at #3 singles Case Eisenhut (ND) defeated Moritz Gropp (SR) 6-1, 6-1.

At #1 doubles, Cayden Knies/Tristan Linne (ND) defeated Evan Julian/Cam O’Brien (SR) 6-3, 6-2 and at #2 doubles Kaden Quinn/Parker Zehr (ND) defeated Luke Taylor/Logan Welp (SR) 6-0, 6-0.

In the Junior Varsity match, the young Jeeps also win in a shutout, 3-0.

In singles matches, Alex Bauer (ND) defeated Joe Wininger (SR)  8-0, Alex Harder (ND) defeated Adam Welp (SR) and in doubles, Austin Sander/Griffin Bauer (ND) defeated Dakota Giesler/Andrew Krieg (SR).  The Jeeps JV also 2-0 for the 2014 season.

GIRLS SOCCER

At Oakland City, the Lady Jeeps soccer team dropped its 2014 season opener to the host Lady Trojans, 3-1.  Northeast Dubois took an early lead when junior Kelly Vonderheide blasted the ball in the back of the net at the 17 minute mark.

This goal marked Vonderheide’s first varsity goal.  The attack was started when sophomore Aubrey Marks beat a Trojan defender on the left and saw Vonderheide open in the middle.

The Jeeps defense held the Trojans until the final 4 minutes of the first half when Trojan Cassidy Saulmon penetrated the back line and scored.  Unfortunately for the Jeeps, senior defender Brynn Hoffman suffered an ankle injury at the beginning of the second half.

Wood Memorial capitalized and put two goals in halfway through the second half.  The Trojans’ defense held the Jeeps scoreless in the second half.  The Lady Jeeps 0-1 for the new season.

GIRLS GOLF

Jasper wins a triangular at Buffalo Trace Golf Club in Jasper. Final scores were Jasper (185), Pike Central (239), and Boonville (237).

Individual scores for the Lady Wildcats… Maddie Wagner (43-medalist), Annika Harmon (46), Catherine Bell (46), Taylor Stilwell (50) and Sarah Ackerman (51).

At Huntingburg Country Club, Heritage Hills outshot the host Lady Raiders, 232-240.

Individually for Southridge; Sheldon 57, Ornelas 60, Weitkamp 61, Snyder 62, Mundy 66.
