Sylvester J. Mehringer, 93, Jasper

Sylvester MehringerSylvester J. Mehringer, 93, of Jasper, died Sunday (August 17) at his home. He was born March 10, 1921, in Jasper to Joseph R. and Margaret (Scheurich) Mehringer. He married Lucille E. Kreilein June 2, 1949, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. She died February 8, 2007.

Sylvester was employed by Lockhead Overseas Corporation from 1942 to 1944 as an aircraft technician serving in Northern Ireland and England. Then he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps with duty on Guam and in Japan. In 1980 he retired from Dubois Rural Electric Co-op after 36 years. He was a life member of St. Joseph’s Church. He enjoyed archery and black powder shooting.

He is survived by one daughter, Karen Mehringer, and two sons, Keith J. and James D. Mehringer, all of Jasper.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by nine sisters, Caroline Schmitt, Catherine Sermersheim, Mary Sermersheim, Bertha Fromme, Clara Fromme, Ardella Wehr, Frances Mehringer, and two infants, Elizabeth and Olivia Mehringer, and three brothers, Robert Mehringer, and two infants, Leo and August Mehringer.

Services at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Church with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. V.F.W. Post No. 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
