Virginia A. Mehringer, 88, Jasper

Virginia MehringerVirginia A. Mehringer, 88, of Jasper, died Tuesday (August 12) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born October 2, 1925, in Scott City, Missouri, to William and Elizabeth (Seyer) Blattel. She had two marriages. Her first was to Robert Schepers in Kelso, Missouri, on July 14, 1943. He died September 24, 1976. Her second marriage was to Linus A. Mehringer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper on November 30, 1978. He died December 6, 2002.

Virginia retired from the Jasper School Corporation where she was a cook for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and its St. Ann’s Society. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and spending time with her dog Buddy.

She is survived by three step daughters, Mary Ann Bohnert and husband James, Mel Snyder and husband Ron, and Elaine Streicher and husband Gary, all of Jasper; one step son, Jerry Mehringer and wife Barb, Tell City; one sister, Clara Stemle, Jasper; one brother, Leon Blattel and wife Ann, Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Maria Gawthorp, Alvina Haase, and Dorothy Miller, two brothers, Theon and Paul Blattel; and two step sons, Jim and Donald Mehringer.

Services at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at
