Dewayne Chappell, 75, Huntingburg

DeWayne ChappellDewayne Chappell, 75, of Huntingburg, died Monday (August 11) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born November 28, 1938, in Pikeville, to William and Iva (Sullivan) Chappell. He married Carol Kelley September 24, 1960, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.

Dewayne worked for Harker Automotive as an automotive parts salesman. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Y.M.I. Club. He enjoyed fishing, wine making, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Chappell; two daughters, Stacy Weisman and husband Phil, Ireland, and Shannon Farrell and husband Joe, Indianapolis; one son, Doug Chappell and wife Brenda, Indianapolis; two sisters, Nancy Krohn and husband Myreon, Coe, and Betty Carlisle and husband Pat, Francisco; and five grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Chappell, Boonville.

Services at 10 a.m. (EDT) Saturday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Friends may call ffrom 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary and Y.M.I. vigil will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, St.  Mary’s Organ Repair Fund, or to the New Lebanon Cemetery fund in Velpen. Condolences may be shared with the family online at
