The root beer float is celebrated every August 6th with its own special food holiday – National Root Beer Float Day.

And to celebrate National Root Beer Float Day, Jasper-based Dad’s Root Beer Company is giving away free Dad’s Root Beer Floats from 11 this morning to 1 this afternoon in the parking of Dad’s parent company Hedinger Beverage Company.  Its located at 950 South St. Charles Street on Jasper’s southwest side.

Andrea Hedinger says the Dad’s Root Beer Floats they are giving away will be all local…

Hedinger Beverage bought the Dad’s Root Beer brand back in 2007.

The custom of brewing root beer goes back to the 18th century here in America. Farm owners used to brew their own light-alcoholic beverage for family get-togethers and other social events. During the 19th century, some pharmacists tried to sell their version of root beer as a miracle drug.
