Local Woman Facing Charges After She Arrives At JMS “Highly Intoxicated”

A Jasper woman has been arrested for child neglect after police say she arrived at Jasper Middle School late Monday afternoon drunk.

45-year old Melissa Dolen was taken into custody after JPD says it received a call from a concerned citizen at about 5:30pm Monday that a woman was seen staggering as she walked from her vehicle to the entrance of Jasper Middle School.

When officers arrived a short time later, they say they found a male juvenile locked inside Dolen’s vehicle with the windows rolled up.

JPD located Dolen in the school and determined she was “highly intoxicated”

JPD says Dolen’s blood alcohol content tested .385%, that’s four-and-a-half times the legal limit in Indiana.

Police also say Dolen also resisted a JPD officer while being placed into custody. She momentarily escaped custody but was immediately detained again.

Dolen was arrested for operating while intoxicated and neglect of a dependent. She later escaped from police and was immediately detained again of which was charged with Resisting Law Enforcement and Escape.  She is being held in the Dubois County Security Center on a $1,500 cash bond.

Police say the juvenile with Dolen was released to a family member however the Dubois County Department of Child Services will be notified of the incident to begin its own investigation.
