Earl L. Englert, 83, Jasper

Earl EnglerEarl L. Englert, 83 of Jasper, died Saturday (August 2) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. He was born in Jasper January 19, 1931, to Basil and Mathilda (Schulte) Englert. He married Betty Rowekamp April 11, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Earl was a 1949 graduate of Jasper High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He retired from Springs Valley Bank and Trust after working 33 years for German American Bank. He was a member of St. Joseph Church where he served as an adult server, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and Jasper Civitan Club. His hobbies were baseball, and golf. He played semi-pro baseball with the Jasper Reds.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Marsha Schneider and husband Don, and Mary Wendholt and husband Greg, all of Jasper; two sons, Mark Englert and wife Nancy, Zionsville, and Dr. Michael Englert, M.D. and wife Julie, South Bend; 10 grandchildren, Paul and Greg Schneider, Scott and Ben Wendholt, Emily Edsensga, and Jacqueline, 2nd Lieutenant Kate (U.S. Air Force), Jessica, Stephen, and Elizabeth Englert; and one great-grandaughter, Hannah Schneider.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Linus and Oscar Engler.

Services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. VFW Post No. 673 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. A rosary service 2:30 p.m. Tuesday by members of St. Joseph Parish.
