Wilfred H. “Wif” Reckelhoff, 84, Jasper

Wif ReckelhoffWilfred H. “Wif” Reckelhoff, 84, of Jasper, died Friday (August 1) at the Providence Home Health Care Center in Jasper. Wif was born September 12, 1929, in Jasper, to August and Mary (Brang) Reckelhoff. He married Mildred Frick June 17, 1950, at St. Mary’s Church in Huntingburg.

Wif worked as a small engine mechanic for Ruxer Brothers, Sten’s Lawn and Garden, and Tom’s Lawn and Garden, from which he retired. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Ireland Historical Society. He was an accomplished musician and played steel guitar in several country and western bands over the years. He enjoyed traveling, music, fishing, and watching car racing.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Mildred Frick; three daughters, Helena Dettmer and husband Terry Stone, Coralville, Iowa, Elizabeth Williams and husband Edward, Indianapolis, and Donna Reckelhoff and husband Erik Wiehardt, Kendall Park, New Jersey; one son, Carl Reckelhoff and wife Judy Brohm, New Albany, Indiana; six grandchildren, six step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 10 step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Joseph Reckelhoff, who died in infancy, one daughter, Patricia, who died in infancy, and one brother, James Reckelhoff, who died in infancy.

Services at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. A rosary will be prayed at 2:45 by St. Joseph Parish.
