Charlotte M. “Shirley” Cockerham, 82, Jasper

Shirley CockerhamCharlotte M. “Shirley” Cockerham, 82 of Jasper, died Friday (July 25) at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Shirley was born February 2, 1932, in Tell City to William J. and Marie (Howell) Labhart. She married Gerald E. Cockerham March 14, 1953. He died December 4, 1966.

Shirley was a licensed cosmetologist. She retired from Hooks Drugs in Jasper after 17 years. She was a teachers aid for 18 years at 10th Street School in Jasper. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper, where she served as a Sunday School Saint. She enjoyed reading and being a teachers aid.

Surviving are one brother, William “Neil” Labhart and wife Kate, Jasper; her caregiver, Marilyn Litherland, Jasper; one niece, Donna Werner and husband Larry, Ireland; and one nephew, William Dean Labhart and wife Brenda, Jasper.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, William Gerald Cockerham, who died January 5, 1980.

Services at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Church of Christ with burial to follow at a later date in the Cuzco Cemetery. Pastor Jane Hillman will officiate.
