A Huntingburg woman has been arrested charged with Level 6 (felony) Domestic Battery following an argument Wednesday night.

HPD arrested 37-year old Breann Campbell.  Police were called to Campbell’s home in the 200 of East 2nd Avenue after receiving a call of an argument in progress between Campbell and her boyfriend.

Police say they noticed a woman walking away from the house when they arrived shortly before 8pm.   Campbell was located behind a residence a few house away.

The boyfriend, 38-year old Robert Matheis told police he and Campbell got into an argument and it escalated.  Matheis says during the height of the argument Campbell slapped him in the right eye and then hit him in the back with a belt.

HPD says markings on his eye and back supported his story.

When questioned, police say Campbell admitted hitting him in the eye, but says she did not mean to hit him with the belt.  She told HPD she took her belt off during the argument and when it flew out of belt loops, it struck Matheis on the back.  Police say the couple recently separated.

If found guilty of the Level 6 Domestic Battery charge, Campbell could get between six months to two years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.00.
