Eight Seek 2014 Jr. Miss Strassenfest Crown

2013 Junior Miss Lydia ShepherdThe Jasper Jr. Miss Strassenfest Contest will be held Saturday, July 26 at 7 pm in conjunction with the Miss Strassenfest Pageant at the Jasper Middle School Auditorium.

Young ladies who currently live in the Greater Jasper School District and will be entering grades 7 or 8 for the 2014/2015 school year were eligible to participate. This year, eight contestants will be vying for the Jr. Miss Strassenfest title held this past year by Lydia Shepherd (pictured right).

The eight contestants (all pictured below) are…

Zoe Briggs is the daughter of Heidi and Brian Biggs. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. Her activities include gymnastics, cheerleading, track, Soap Box Derby racing, sewing and cooking. She volunteered at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

Peyton Blackgrave is the daughter of Lisa and Jon Blackgrave. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. Her activities include JMS soccer, DC United travel soccer, sewing, reading and drawing. She volunteered at the Northwood Good Samaritan Retirement Community.

Mackenzie Cooley is the daughter of Jo Annette and Daniel Cooley. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. Her activities include Girl Scouts, choir, Destination Imagination, track and tennis. She volunteered at the North Dubois Girl Scout Day Camp.

Chloe Herzog is the daughter of Vicki and Bob Herzog. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. Her activities include Dance Central Academy dance team, band, St. Joseph Church youth choir and reading. She volunteered at Dance Central Academy Princess Dance Camp.

Madison Hostetter is the daughter of Angela and Brian Hostetter. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. Her activities include Dance Central Academy dance team, 4-H, band and Destination Imagination. She volunteered at the Dubois County Humane Society.

Breann Lechner is the daughter of Brenda and Mike Lechner. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. Her activities include Girl Scouts, choir, dance team, swimming and reading. She volunteered at the Dubois County Community Food Bank.

Emily Patterson is the daughter of Ann and Darren Patterson. She will be a 7th grader at Jasper Middle School. Her activities include cheerleading, DC United travel soccer, softball, 4-H, gymnastics and reading. She volunteered at the Dubois County Humane Society.

Emma Reutepohler is the daughter of Sharon and Curt Reutepohler. She will be a 7th grader at Jasper Middle School. Her activities include cross country, DC United travel soccer, dance team, ROOS club and cheerleading. She volunteered at the Dubois County Humane Society.

Scholarships will be awarded to the Jr. Miss and first runner-up in the amounts of $250 and $125, respectively. A second runner-up, Miss Congeniality, and Miss Photogenic will also be awarded.

The mission of the Jr. Miss Strassenfest Scholarship Program is to encourage and develop the life skills of young women through community service involvement, public speaking opportunities, interview skills and personal development.

Contestants will participate in four categories: scholastics, an interview with judges, a community service project and on-stage presentation. Each contestant volunteered at least four hours and in total contributed 32 hours to a number of worth-while causes.
