An off-duty Huntingburg police officer notified his department of a possible battery in progress in a moving car heading south from Jasper Sunday afternoon.

The off-duty officer says at about 2pm he witnessed a male driver swinging and appearing to be hitting another passenger in his backseat while the car was traveling south on U. S. 231 from Indiana 162.

The officer continued to follow the vehicle and at one point the male juvenile appeared to try and get out of the car at one point while the car was stopped in traffic.  The car was eventually pulled over by HPD west of Huntingburg Lake along Indiana 64.  The driver of the car, 43-year old Andres Solis of Newburgh was detain pending further investigation by HPD.

Police determined that Solis used a USB chord to hit the 13-year old male juvenile in the car with him.  HPD say the chord caused a welt on the boy’s wrist.

Solis was taken into custody.  He is charged with a Class 5 felony count of Battery.
