Driver Escapes His Firey Jeep Following Head-On Collision Sunday

accidentA head-on collision on Kellerville Road Sunday afternoon caused one of the vehicles involved to catch fire after impact.

The driver of the Jeep that caught fire was 35-year old Jonathon Bateman of Jasper.  DCSD says Bateman was southbound on Kellerville Road just south of CR 300 North when he swerved to miss a deer.

After missing the deer, the Jeep continued on into the path of a northbound SUV driven by 63-year old Judy Douglas of Dubois and the two vehicles collided head-on.

Bateman was able to get out of his Jeep as it caught fire.  He suffered only minor injuries.

DCSD says Douglas was transported to Memorial Hospital for a fractured wrist, abdominal pain and ankle pain.

Both vehicles were considered a total loss.
