Florentine “Marge” Block, 81, Jasper

Marge BlockFlorentine (Marge) Block, 81, of Jasper, died Saturday (July 5) at Brookside Village in Jasper. She was born in Jasper November 20, 1932, to Silas A. and Marie (Englehart) Giesler. She married James A. Block September 3, 1955, in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper. He died December 13, 2013.

Marge was a homemaker and member of Holy Family Church and its Blessed Virgin Sodality. She was a member of the VFW. Post No. 673 Auxiliary, the American Legion Post No. 147 Auxiliary, and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 77 Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, watching Indiana University basketball, and spending time with family.

She is survived by two daughters, Pam Lueken and husband Wayne, Birdseye, and Angie Kleinhelter and husband Tom, Jasper; three sons, Steve Block and wife Ann, and Mark Block and wife Jan, all of Jasper, and David Block and wife Terri, Capitola, California; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Bernice Matheis, Ruth Elliott, Shirley Mehringer and husband Jerome, Betty Wildman and husband James, Sue Friedman and husband John, Linda Giesler and Viola Brickey, all of Jasper; and five brothers, Larry Giesler and wife Robin, Indianapolis, Ed Giesler and wife Helen, Ireland, and Bill Giesler and wife Joann, Don Giesler and wife Virlee, and Terry Giesler and wife Julie, all of Jasper.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Turk and Mary Jane Giesler, and two brothers; Robert and Charles Giesler.

Services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. The VFW Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
