A terrible case of child abuse being reported in Spencer County. 22-year-old Samuel Brinson of Chrisney is facing battery charges, after allegedly abusing his five-month-old son.

Indiana State Police say Brinson caused significant bruising to the child’s abdomen after squeezing him incredibly hard and bit his ear.

The child was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper by his mother, who unknowingly believed the bruising might have been a rash. The child was transferred to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, to be further evaluated for internal injuries.

On Sunday, April 27, Trooper Jason Dunsworth opened an investigation into a complaint of possible child abuse. Initial information revealed that Samuel Brinson, 22, Chrisney, was caring for his five month old son early Sunday morning, and became frustrated due to the child crying. Brinson allegedly squeezed the child’s abdomen area too hard as Brinson picked him up, causing significant bruising. As the child continued to cry out, Brinson purportedly bit the child’s ears, causing bruising.

Trooper Dunsworth was issued an arrest warrant Wednesday by the Spencer County Circuit Court for Brinson. After attempting to find Brinson, Trooper Dunsworth met with Brinson in Ferdinand and placed him under arrest, charging him with Battery Causing Injury to a Child Less Than 14 Years of Age, a class D Felony. Brinson was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Spencer County Jail.
