Ralph “Johnny” Vollmer, 89, of Jasper, died Wednesday (April 30) at his home. He was born in Jasper September 30, 1924, to George and Anna Lampert Vollmer. He married Bonnie Kress August 18, 1949, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. She died May 9, 2012.
Johnny was a graduate of Jasper High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War 2 as a bombardier. He retired as manager of the Parket Market, where he was employed for 30 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Jasper Knight of Columbus, VFW Post No. 673, and American Legion Post No. 147.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheryl Weisman and husband Jeff, Jasper, and Pam Vollmer, Indianapolis; two step-grandchildren, Stacey Sander and husband Brian, and Jay Wesiman; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Dudine.
Services at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church with entombment following in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum . VFW Post No. 673 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. St. Joseph parish members will lead a rosary at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
