Frances Hamelman Wiggins, 86, of Ocala, Florida, formerly of Huntingburg, died Sunday (April 27) in Ocala. She was born August 25, 1927, in Huntingburg, to Elmer John and Helen Mae (Huntman) Hamelman.
Fran grew up on a dairy farm near Huntingburg. She attended Indiana State University. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, boating, and the beach. She was an elder of the Silver Springs Shores Presbyterian Church in Ocala where she volunteered full-time for more than 30 years with the Skills Bank, Meals on Wheels, Food Pantry and various other organizations.
She is survived by two sons, Jon H. Wiggins, Ocala, and Joe E. Wiggins, Houston, Texas; one daughter, Jennifer Wiggins, Longwood, Florida; three grandchildren,
Jona Walters, Jon H. Wiggins II, and Jason Wiggins, all of Orlando, Florida; and five great-grandchildren, Justin, Blake, Alexandra, Laney and Amanda.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gene Reed Wiggins, who died January 30, 2011.
Services at 10 a.m. (EDT) Saturday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery. Rev. Paula Young Mayberry will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion County Humane Society in Ocala, Florida.
