Huntingburg police removed a total 37 dogs from a home on Washington Street Friday afternoon.   Nine of the dogs found were deceased.

The dogs were taken from the home of 66-year old Mary Burch at 609 North Washington Street.

Huntingburg police say members of the Dubois County Animal Control Team filed a formal animal neglect complaint at about nine Friday morning.

HPD Sargent Christian Gogel then went to Burch’s home with the DCACT members to investigate further.

A search warrant was then sought and granted by the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office and Circuit Court.

The search warrant was executed at about 1:30 Friday afternoon.

HPD, the DCACT and members of the Dubois County Humane Society found the 37 animals, all dogs, on Burch’s property.  Small dogs like poodles were found as was a German Shepherd.

HPD says the living dogs were taken by the two animal welfare groups.

Several of the dogs were taken to the Dubois County Animal Hospital in Huntingburg for  needed treatment.

Police say their investigation is continuing and charges are pending against Burch.
