Anthony V. “Tony” Haas, 91, of Jasper, died Wednesday (April 23) at the St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born in St. Anthony November 2, 1922, to John and Theresia Heichelbech Haas. He married Bertha Goeppner February 22, 1943, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. She died June 18, 2010.
Tony was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War 2. He retired from the Bob Luegers Motor Company where he worked for 27 years. After retirement he worked at Rural King in Jasper. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a life member of the VFW Post No. 673. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Vonderheide, Jasper, and Kathleen Holman and husband Martin, Bristow; two sons, Herb Haas and Kathy, Jasper, and Jerry Haas and wife Marilyn, Washington; 14 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Matthews and Marie Weyer, one brother, John M. Haas, and one grandson, Keith Allen Vonderheide.
Services at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. VFW Post No. 673 will conduct military grave side rites. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity.
