William Thomas “Tom” Mitchell, 81 of Birdseye died Thursday (April 17) on his property in Birdseye following a tractor accident. He was born March 4, 1933, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, to Wilburn and Modean (Pool) Mitchell.
Tom retired as a salesman of heavy truck parts. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean war. He was a member of Birdseye Christian Church and American Legion Post No. 54 in Hobart, Indiana. He enjoyed collecting antiques, especially antique cars.
He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Mitchell, Scottsville, Arizona, and Diane Johnson and husband Wally, Snowflake, Arizona; one grandson, Jeff Johnson; and one brother, Frank Mitchell and wife Billie, Celestine.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper with burial following at a later date in Qualls Cemetery in Perry County Tennessee. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military rites. Pastor Ron Hickman will officiate. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
