Fatal Fire At Spencer County Home Of Retired VUJC Professors

One person is dead following a fire early this morning in Santa Claus, another person was life-flighted to a Louisville hospital.  The fire broke out at the home of Bryan and Maureen Gregory, both retired professors at Vincennes University Jasper Campus.

Maureen Gregory, a retired professor of English at VUJC and the former chairperson of the college’s Humanities and Social Science Department was LifeFlighted to a Louisville hospital after she was helped out of her burning home by a neighbor in Christmas Lake Village shortly after 6:30 Central time this morning.

Indiana State Police say one person was found dead inside the house. The body is believed to be that of Gregory’s husband, Bryan Gregory.

Dr. Alan Johnson, Dean at VUJC received a call early this morning from a colleague in Spencer County about the fire at the Gregory home. Afterward, he talked with NewsNow Dubois County…


Dr. Johnson says Maureen Gregory served as interim dean at VUJC for a year before he joined the college in 2006.

Fire officials say the Gregory home was fully engulfed in flames when arrived on scene.
