Margie June Blessinger, 79, Jasper

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMargie June Blessinger, 79, of Jasper, died Monday (April 14) at her son’s home in Owensboro, Kentucky. She was born July 8, 1934, to Alton B. and Inez Marie (Stanley) Cates. She married Hilary Blessinger April 29, 1982.

Margie received her bachelor’s degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, and her master’s degree in education from Western Kentucky University. She worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer at the Hilary Blessinger Public Accounting firm for 20 years, and was a middle school teacher in Daviess County, Kentucky. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Dubois County Museum, the Dubois County Historical Society, and the Southern Indiana Doll Club. She was treasurer of the 20th Century Literary Club and volunteered at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. She enjoyed collecting dolls, and was an avid reader.

She is survived by her husband, Hilary Blessinger; one daughter, Julie Marie London, Richmond, Virginia; two sons, John Alton London and wife Karen, and Jeff K. London and wife Tammy, all of Owensboro; two step daughters, Laura Blessinger, and Antina Lemond and husband Kevin, all of Jasper; three step sons, Frank and Chris Blessinger, both of Jasper, and Mark Blessinger and wife Joyce, Newburgh; five grandchildren, Jason, Tabitha, Krystal, Haley-Jule, and John Cates London;  two great-grandchildren, Layla and Alton London; and four step-grandchildren, Erica and Tyler Schmitt and Evan Lemond, and Lucas Blessinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
