Steven L. Matthews, 67, of Jasper, died Tuesday (April 1) at the Waters of Huntingburg. He was born May 11, 1946, in Spurgeon, to Hilbert and Imogene (Houchin) Matthews. He married Barbara Marcum August 24, 2003, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Steven worked for Indiana Furniture from which he retired. He enjoyed playing golf, basketball, bowling, softball, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Matthews; three daughters, Donna Anderson and her partner Jane Hasenour, Jasper, Lori Cronin and husband Curt, Celestine, and Mary Schepers and husband Jeremy, Dubois; seven sons, Rodney Matthews, Indiana, Jason Matthews, Naples, Florida, David Anderson and wife Tara, Dubois, Skip Anderson, Indiana, Mike Marcum and wife Sara, Patricks Air Force Base, Florida, Tracy Marcum and wife Jessica, Fairmount, David Marcum and his partner Jami Ferguson, Huntingburg; 26 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Janie Thomas, Newburgh, Joyce Fox and husband Brent, Petersburg, Vonda Vaughn, Winslow, and Rose Self and husband Jim, French Lick; one brother, Roger Matthews and wife Tina, Otwell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert Matthews, who died in infancy, and Dave Matthews.
Funeral services at 1 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with burial following in Shiloh Cemetery in Ireland. Pastor Terry Beadles and William Covey will officiate.
