Randy Schmitt, 59, of Ireland, died Thursday (March 20) at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Jasper, April 20, 1954, to Linus and Margaret “Peggy” (Giesler) Schmitt. He married Linda Messmer April 16, 1977, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper.
Randy was a poultry farmer for many years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. He was a director for the Dubois County REC, a member of the Ireland Lions Club, the Ireland Sportsman’s Club, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and the Jasper Outdoor Recreation. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, mushroom hunting, NASCAR racing, NFL football, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Schmitt; one daughter, Jessica Beatty and husband Aaron, Newburgh; one son, Jeremy Schmitt and wife Becca, Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Gretchen and Kaleb Beatty, and Austin Schmitt; six sisters, Darlene Jacob and husband Gerald, Ferdinand, Rosemary Heim and husband Kenneth, Jasper, Margie Hubert Russman and husband Chuck, Louisville, Florence Schmitt and husband John Ward, Evansville, Cindy Schmitt, Evansville, and Sheryl Mehling, and husband, Ray, Ireland; two brothers, Amos Schmitt, Velpen, and Charles Schmitt and wife Connie, Grayson, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland with burial following in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
