Maurice “Maury” Eckerle, Greenwood

Maury EckerleMaurice “Maury” Eckerle, 72, of Greenwood, died Saturday (March 15) at his home. He was born in Jasper on October 26, 1941, to Linus and Bernadette (Fromme) Eckerle. He married Marilyn Weidenbenner November 30, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.

Maury was a 1959 graduate of Jasper High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He retired from Ayrshire Land Company in Indianapolis where he worked in the real estate department. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 147 in Jasper, enjoyed golfing, sports, traveling, and landscaping.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Eckerle; two sons, Scott Eckerle and wife Janet, Greenwood, and Kevin Eckerle and wife Karyl, Northville, Michigan; four grandchildren; Mitch, Bridget, Benjamin and Noah; one sister, Joan Knies and husband Brian, Jasper; and four brothers, Dave Eckerle and wife Lou, Gene Eckerle and wife Kathleen, AND Raymie Eckerle and wife Rita, all of Jasper, and Mike Eckerele and wife Becky, Indianapolis.

Funeral services at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with burial following in Fairview cemetery. American Legion Post No. 147 in Jasper will conduct military grave side rites. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
