The fifth-grade MATH Bowl team at Cedar Crest Intermediate School finished third in its division in rankings from the 18th Annual Math Academic Teams For Hoosier (MATH).  The rankings were released Wednesday.

509 MATH teams took part in MATH Bowl competitions at 44 locations across Indiana.  About 7500 students in grades four through six took part.

Cedar Crest principal Mark Jahn tells NewsNow Dubois County that his school and Jasper’s Holy Family School co-hosted the local MATH Bowl event at Cedar Crest last week.

Cedar Crest’s fifth-graders, coached by fifth-grade teacher Kelly Schroering, won the local “Red Class” competition last Thursday.  Based on that performance, the fifth grade team was ranked third in the state behind top-ranked Northview Elementary School (Valparaiso) and Lake Street Elementary School (Crown Point).

The 24 on the picture is the number of 28 problems the team solved during the local competition last Thursday.  Northview was tops in the division with 27 of the 28 solved.  Lake Street solved 26.
