Edwin Peter Seitz, 100, of Collinsville, Illinois, died Friday (February 21) at his home. He was born February 5, 1914, in Haysville, to George and Amelia (Stamm) Setiz. He married Evelyn Dorthy Meter January 27, 1946, in Huntingburg.
Edwin was a veteran of the United States Army, 2nd Infantry Division (Indianheads), and served during World War II as a radio operator from Omaha Beach through V-E Day where he earned a Bronze Star medal. After the war, He was employed as a truck-driver for Claremont Trucking, formerly Jasper and Chicago, for 20 years. He retired and relocated to California where he enjoyed traveling, fishing, and was a skilled pool player.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, George and Amelia Seitz, two sisters, Victoria Lottes and Olive Aulenbacher, and one granddaughter, Micki Goodwin.
He is survived by two sons, James Seitz and wife Irene, Jasper and Wayne Seitz and wife Connie, St. Louis; three daughters, Eugenia Shirley Nichols, Redlands, California, Nancy Colocino and husband James, Irvine, California, and Georgia Schefft and husband Walt, Collinsville, Illinois; one nephew, Robert Lottes and wife Barbara; two nieces, Marie Harder and Linda Harris; 13 grandchildren, Mike, Patty, and Terri Seitz, Dane LaGrange and wife Julie, Paul LaGrange and wife Robin, Megan Colocino, Mark
Schefft, Paul Schefft and wife Mary, Stacy Cabanas and husband James, Jody Seitz, and Kelly Klima and husband Chris; 15 great-grandchildren; and several great-great- grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Victoria Lottes and Olive Aulenbacher, and one granddaughter, Micki Goodwin.
Memorials may be sent to St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville. At his request, the cremated remains will be interred at Jefferson Barracks Veterans Memorial Cemetery in St Louis.
