Fallen Local Marine To Be Honored By NASCAR Driver

LuekenEric Lueken, the fallen United States Marine Corporal from Dubois, will be honored this fall by NASCAR driver Kurt Busch.

Lueken (pictured), a 2001 Northeast Dubois High School graduate was killed in combat in Iraq in 2006.

His name will be placed on Busch’s car (see below) when it races at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois, September 14th. Busch is having a name of a fallen service member placed in honor on his car for each NASCAR race this season. Its part of the Armed Forces Foundation’s Race Dedication Program.

Eric’s cousin, John Marks, of Owensboro, Kentucky, nominated Eric when he learned of the Race Dedication Program.

Eric’s father, Jake Lueken, tells NewsNow Dubois County that Marks is very active with the Armed Forces Foundation and the Wounded Warriors Project.

Corporal Lueken’s name will be placed under the No. 41 car’s left taillight.

Lueken, the 23-year old son of Jake and Melinda Lueken of Dubois, was mortally wounded by an improvised explosive device in combat in the Al Anbar Province, Iraq.
