Loma William Hartke, 82, Huntingburg

Loma Hartke obit photo081(1)Loma William Hartke, 82, of Huntingburg, died Thursday (February 6) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born July 31, 1931, in Huntingburg, to Arthur and Fayola (Murray) Hartke. He married Melba L. Miller in September, 1951, at Methodist Church in Huntingburg.

Loma was a Purdue University graduate. He worked at U.S. Ordinance in Indianapolis for two years before returning to Huntingburg as superintendent of the City of Huntingburg Electric and Water Department. He worked for the city for 40 years. After retirement he volunteered at the Huntingburg Museum for 15 years. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and a former member of the National Power & Light’s board of directors. In 2011, he was honored for his outstanding public service and was presented with The Key to the City of Huntingburg.

He is survived by two sons, David Hart and wife Brenda, and Jeff Hartke and wife Vicki, all of Huntingburg; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Melba L. Hartke, who died December 18, 2013.

Funeral services at 2 p.m. (EST) Sunday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery. Pastor Mark West will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Saturday the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Church of Christ or the Dubois County Leukemia Association.
