Jack Herald Powell, 91, of Huntingburg, died Monday (February 3) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born February 20, 1922, in Dubois, to William F. and Margaret (Schott) Powell. He married Frances “Jean” Heowener on April 25, 1944, in Morganfield, Kentucky.
Jack was a wood worker and a member of Salem United Church of Christ. He was an avid hunter and trained hunting dogs.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 yers, Frances “Jean” Powell; one son, William F. Powell, Ferdinand; two daughters, Debbie Haskins, Huntingburg, and Diana L. Louden, Dale; one brother, Jim Powell, Columbus; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Morris Powell, and four sisters, Thelma Maas, Marion Bonifer, Geri Harris and Doris Nathan.
Private funeral services were held Wednesday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Rev. Mark West officiated. Burial followed at Mayo Cemetery in Duff. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Church of Christ. Condolences may be shared online at www.nassandson.com.
