Ice Flies Off Truck; Crashes Through Car Windshield

Two large pieces of ice flew off the roof of a Frito-Lay truck that was eastbound on Indiana 64.  The ice then crashed into a westbound car.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says the ice broke through the car’s front windshield.  A female passenger in the car was covered with broken glass but she was not injured in the face.   The driver, 19-year old Eric Birk was not hurt though some of the ice did strike him in face.

DCSD says the Frito-Lay truck truck continued on through Bretzville Junction more than likely not realizing what had occured.

DCSD is asking if anyone witnessed what happened to contact the sheriff’s department at 482-3522.  All calls can remain anonymous.

The sheriff’s department say this an example of how important it is to clear snow and ice from your vehicle, in particular, the windshield, headlights, taillights, the hood and roof.

The incident happened at about 2:25 Thursday afternoon along Indiana 64 about a mile east of the Bretzville Junction.
