Local Couple Helps Stranded Elderly Motorist

“My fiancĂ© and I were on our way home from Evansville when at about about midnight, I looked to the right side of the road and thought I saw a red flare.

I was on interstate 64 eastbound about to get on the 231 exit ramp when I looked harder and realized it was a vehicle.

I felt so sorry for the person in the ditch but it was to so dark that I didn’t want to walk upto the vehicle alone because it was really far off the road. I told Melissa I can at least call 911 so they can get help to that person. So I called 911. Then, a snow plow driver also stopped behind me on the interstate so we both went to check out the people in the vehicle together.

I told Melissa to stay in my truck and lock the doors. I had to prepare myself for the worst that there could be a lot of blood but somebody could need my help. It turns out it was a older man and he was ok.

He said he hit a slick spot and flew off the road. I’m so glad the person was ok. He said he was trying to call help but his hands were so cold that he couldn’t press the buttons very well. So I let him talk to 911 on my phone.

He also couldn’t find his flashlight in the wreck so he couldn’t see anything. So I also helped him find his flashlight. He shook my hand and thanked me for taking time out of my day (and evening) to help out a stranger. I told him it is 28 degrees outside and just wanted to make sure he was ok. He said his wife is in the hospital and he just left visiting with her a little bit ago.

I feel like I did one good deed for the day!! I told Melissa I hope if I ever need help someday that somebody will stop to help me out.”

Thanks for sharing T.J.!
