Harlan J. Altman, 84, Ferdinand

Harlan AtlmnHarlan J. Altman, 84, of Ferdinand, died Wednesday (January 22) at his home. He was born January 22, 1930, in Ferdinand, to Cornelius and Henrietta (Leinenbach) Altman. He married Alba E. Meneghel August 10, 1957, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Harlan retired from The Dubois County Bank/Ferdinand Branch as manager and assistant vice-president. He was a board member of Marian Heights Academy for 25 years, a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, and a graduate of Huntingburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 as a member of Military Police in Germany. He was a member and past commander of Ferdinand Legion Post 124, a member of Huntingburg V.F.W., the Huntingburg Conservation Club, and the Dubois County Museum. He enjoyed coin collecting, playing cards, traveling, and being with his nieces and nephews. He visited all 50 states and over 25 foreign countries.

Surviving are his wife Alba E. Altman; two brothers, Francis Altman, and Thomas Altman and wife Anna Rose, all of Ferdinand; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorita Kleeman and Romona Morgan.

Funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. Military services will be conducted by Ferdinand American Legion Post 124.
