Monica Rose “Rosie” Gutgsell, 75, Schnellville

Rosie GutgsellMonica Rose “Rosie” Gutgsell, 75 of Schnellville, died Monday (January 6) at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. She was born July 2, 1938, in Schnellville, to Anthony and Helen (Greenwell) Nordhoff. She married Robert L. Gutgsell September 27, 1958, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville. He died September 11, 2012.

Rosie was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, flowers, cooking, and spending time with friends, family and her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Surviving are one daughter, Audrey Lichlyter and husband Zach, Jasper; six sons, Bruce Gutgsell and wife Denise, Celestine, and Bret Gutgsell and wife Kristina, Bernie Gutgsell and wife, Theresa, Brad Gutgsell and wife Melinda, Blake Gutgsell and wife Lisa, and Mark Gutgsell and wife Tracy, all of Schnellville; 14 grandchildren, Amanda Hochgesang, Drake and Chase Lichlyter, and Heath, Wesley, Kyle, Lucas, Landon, Grant, Hilary, Emily, Harrison, Mason, and Brendon Gutgsell; one great granddaughter, Reagan Hochgesang; and two sisters, Lillian Fritz, St. Anthony, and Margie Knies, Bretzville.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Merkel, Mary Lou Kirst, and Helen Merkel, four brothers, Charles, William, Anthony C. Jr., and J. Robert Nordhoff, and five siblings who died in infancy.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and one our prior to the service time Friday at the church.
