Karl S. Dilger, 96, Mariah Hill

Karl S. DilgerKarl S. Dilger, 96, of Mariah Hill, died Wednesday, January 2, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. He was born October 15, 1917, in Mariah Hill to Edward and Mary (Schum) Dilger. He married Juliana Wagner September 3, 1940, in Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill. She died June 15, 1974. Karl married Marie (Bankford) Gaesser on July 19, 1975, in Mary Help of Christians Church.

Karl was a lifelong farmer who also worked in coal mines during the 1930s. He was a member of Mary Help of Christians Church, the Mariah Hill Conservation Club, and the Mariah Hill YMI.

Hel is survived by his wife, Marie Dilger; three sons, Chester Dilger and wife LuAlice,  Ferdinand, Samuel Dilger and wife LouAlice, Mariah Hill, and Roger Dilger, Mariah Hill; two daughters, Andrea Wagner and husband Larry, St. Anthony and Vicki Keller and husband John, Mariah Hill; three step-sons, Ray Gaesser and wife Elaine, Corning, Iowa, Bob Gaesser and wife Ruth, Dale and Larry Gaesser and wife Mona, Gentryville; three step-daughters, Cathy Nolan and husband Mark, Indianapolis, Linda Droege and husband Gary, Wadesville, and Mary Fischer and husband Dan, Ferdinand; 12 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he  was preceded in death by one daughter, Justine Schaefer, one step-son, David Gaesser, three brothers, Leonard, Hubert, and Richard Dilger, and two sisters, Amelia Hassfurther and Elnora Wessel.

Funeral services at 10 AM (CST) Tuesday at Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill with burial following in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
