John W. Weisman, 75 of Boone Township in Dubois County, died Friday (January 3) at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born in Boone Township November 22, 1938, to Alfred and Viola (Thimling) Weisman.
John was a farmer. He also drove trucks for various trucking companies and he worked for Armstrong Implement Company in Jasper. He was a 1956 graduate of Ireland High School, and a graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel School. He was an Army veteran, and a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Township, where he served in various council positions for the church. He was a member and past director of the Ireland Sportsman’s Club, and a member of the Jasper Moose. He enjoyed playing sheepshead, fishing, mushroom hunting, and was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan.
He is survived by two sisters, Marlene Mann and husband John, Dubois, and Barbara Mosby and husband Jerry, Troy; four brothers, Charles Weisman and wife LaVerne, Boone Township, David Weisman and wife Susan, Boone Township, Radius W. Weisman and wife Rebecca L., Jasper, and Martin Weisman and companion Kimberle, Bloomington; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Township with burial following in St. John’s Cemetery. Pastor Catherine Burnette will officiate. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military gravesite rites. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. The Jasper Moose will perform a memorial service at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, or a favorite charity.
