Charles Edward Sherman, 57, of Madison, died Friday (January 3) at The Waters of Huntingburg Nursing Center in Huntingburg. He was born May 25, 1956, in Huntingburg, to Herman and Josephine (Lindauer) Sherman.
On January 9, 1967, at the age of nine, Charles became a resident of Muscatatuck Developmental Training Center in Butlerville, Indiana until its closing in 2003. He moved to his new home in Madison in February of 2004 under the care of Indiana Mentors of Seymour.
He is survived by six brothers, Felix Sherman, Ferdinand, Herman “Junior” Sherman, Gentryville, and William “Bill,” Eugene, Oscar, and Ignatius “Nick” Sherman, all of Huntingburg; four sisters, Mary E. Jochum and husband George, Ferdinand, Elizabeth “Bette” Beren and husband Charles, Dale, Cecilia B. Betz and husband Melvin, Celestine, and Suzanne “Susie” Schipp and husband David, Huntingburg; and 21 nephews, 11 nieces, 13 great nephews, 27 great nieces, four great-great nieces, four great-great nephews, one step nephew, one step niece, two step great nephews, and three step great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Leo Sherman, and twins James and Joseph Sherman, who died at birth.
Funeral services at 10:30 a.m. (EST) Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial following in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation for the immediate families will be held at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 8-10 a.m. Tuesday.
