Viola S. “Olie” Hulsman, 93, of Saint Anthony, died Tuesday (December 31) in the Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born October 26,1920, at Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to Joseph Geissler and Veronica (Bowe) Geissler. She married Gregor Hulsman February 5, 1946, at Chippewa Falls. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1997.
Olie retired from the Saint Anthony Community Center where she managed and cooked for 34 years. She was a member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers Sodality, and the Saint Anthony Homemakers Club. Her hobbies were pottery, weaving, crochet, and working with arts and crafts.
She is survived by one daughter, Roberta Hulsman, Fort Worth, Texas; one grandson, Rick Fraire, Fort Worth, Texas; two great-grandchilden, Erica and Joe; her caregivers, Kathy Tretter and husband Richard, Ferdinand; and one sister-in-law, Jeannie Geissler, Minnesota.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Hulsman, one daughter, Mary Jo Hulsman, three sisters, Rose Tanzar, Evelyn Goulet, and Marie Maulworf, and four brothers, Bernard, Arnold, Alfred and Robert Geissler.
Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Anthony Padua Catholic Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Anthony Fire Department, Saint Anthony Catholic Church, or to the Dubois County Community Foundation.
