Pauline Pfeffer Fierst, 96, of Huntingburg, died Tuesday (December 31) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Jasper September 14, 1917, to Leo and Anna (Eckert) Pfeffer. She married Glen Fierst in 1936. He died in 1983. She married Don Songer in 1984. He died in 2009.
Pauline was a graduate and president of the Jasper High School Class of 1935, was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and the Huntingburg Country Club. She enjoyed playing golf, reading, education, walking, spending time with her grandchildren, and staying in touch over the phone with her many friends in the Huntingburg community.
She is survived by two sons, Roger Fierst and wife Ann, Bloomington, and David Fierst and wife Beth, St. Louis; daughter-in-law Margaret Klink Fierst; one niece, Joyce Brown Powlen, Brownsburg; six grandchildren, Michael and Daniel Fierst, Bloomington, Tim and Tammy Fierst, Phillip Fierst , Columbus, Ohio, and Paul Fierst, Cincinnati, and four great-grandchildren, Diego, Pablo, Miles and Maia Fierst, all of Bloomington.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Glenn Fierst, two sisters, Burnetta Pfeffer Brown and Lucille Pfeffer Egbert, twin brothers who died at the age of three, one grandson, Karl Fierst, and two nieces, Luise Brown Black and Faye Elen Egbert Albee.
Funeral services at 2 p.m. (EST) Saturday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery. Reverend Mark West will officiate at the services. Friends may call from noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana State University Foundation or the Indiana University Foundation.
