Cletus F. Hopf, 91, of Jasper, died Monday (December 30) at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born in Jasper September 18, 1922, to Joseph and Margaret (Mehringer) Hopf. He married Evelyn “Toots” Wilz-Stenftenagel on February 10, 1996. She preceded him in death on December 5, 2009.
Cletus was a retired coal miner. He was an Army veteran and served in Germany during World War II.He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, and VFW Post No. 673. He enjoyed music and dancing, fishing, and volunteering at St. Charles Healthcare Campus in Jasper.
Surviving is one sister-in-law, Dorothy “Sis” Bleemel, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by seven sisters, Bertha Vogler, Helen Hohler, Victoria Sermersheim, Hilda Giesler, Emma Hopf, Veronica Henke, and Lilla Mae Stenftenagel, and five brothers, Silas, Herbert, Roman, Fidelis, and Wilfred Hopf.
Funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Precious Blood Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. VFW Post No. 673 will conduct military gravesite rites. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood Catholic Church or a favorite charity.
