Albert L. Wigand, 89, Dubois

Albert WigandAlbert L. Wigand, 89, of Dubois, died Monday (December 30) at the home of his son Steve and daughter-in-law Bev in Dubois. He was born in Celestine October 24, 1924, to Pete and Veronica (Mercker) Wigand. He married Helen Brosmer October 4, 1949, in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois. She died August 23, 2011.

Albert was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II. He worked for the Hoosier Desk Company in Jasper, the Louis Seger Poultry Farm, and the Vernon Matheis Poultry Farm. He was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois and V.F.W. Post No. 673 in Jasper. His hobbies were woodworking, quilt tops, and gardening.

He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Meyer, Jasper, and Linda Hentrup, Dubois; three sons,
Steve, Jeff, and Randy Wigand, all of Dubois; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Paul Wigand, Jasper, and Simon Wigand, Haysville.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Daniel, one daughter, Pam Wigand, six sisters, Anna Voegerl, Cecellia Rohleder, Leona Kluemper, Frances Gehlhausen, Henrietta Voegerl, and Marcella Voegerl, and two brothers, Raymond and Bernie Wigand.

Funeral services for Albert Wigand at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church with burial following in St. Raphael’s Cemetery. V.F.W. Post No. 673 will conduct military grave side rites. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Raphael’s Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
