Oscar C. Bair, 93, Dubois

Oscar BairOscar C. Bair, 94 of Dubois, died Tuesday (December 24) in Brookside Village Health Care in Jasper. He was born in Dubois October 5, 1919, to Martin and Anna (Bauernfiend) Bair. He married Etta Lou Nicholson October 23, 1948, at the Crystal Community Church. She preceded him in death September 11, 2011.

Oscar Bair was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked for the Dubois County Highway Department for over 43 years. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening and playing cards. He was an Indiana University basketball fan, a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, and a Northeast Dubois girls basketball fan.

Surviving are one son, Gary Bar and wife Diane, Dubois; two granddaughters, Gretchen Brinkman and husband Ryan, and Jessica Freyberger and husband Adam, all of Dubois; great-grandchildren Pierce, Preston and Parker Brinkman, and Abbie and Ryder Freyberger; and one sister, Mary Ann Fuhrman, Jasper.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Belinda Bair, two sisters, Pauline Freyberger and Louise Meyer, and two brothers, Ralph Bair and Wilfred Bair.

Funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois with burial following in St. Peter’s Cemetery. The Rev. Venard Walters will officiate. V.F.W. Post No. 673 in Jasper will conduct military rites. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or to a favorite charity.
