Melba L. Hartke, 81, Huntingburg

Melba HartkeMelba L. Hartke, 81, of Huntingburg, died Wednesday (December 18) at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center in Huntingburg. She was born February 24, 1932, in Huntingburg to Leo and Alvina (Hachmeister) Miller. She married Loma William Hartke in September of 1951 at the Methodist Church in Huntingburg.

Melba worked as treasurer of the Huntingburg School District for seven and a half years followed by 19 years as fiscal officer for Tri-Cap. After her retirement, she served seven years on the Tri-Cap board of directors. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg.

Surviving are her husband, Loma William Hartke; two sons, David Hartke and wife, Brenda, and Jeff Hartke and wife Vicki, all of Huntingburg; one brother, Bob Miller, Huntingburg; one sister, Doris Reutepohler, Huntingburg; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Hesson and Ray “Junior” Hesson, and two sisters, Leona Weaver and Norena Werremeyer.

Funeral services at noon (EST) Saturday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, the day of the funeral.
