Seitz Addresses Jasper’s Economic Development Commission

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJasper mayor Terry Seitz gave a detailed presentation as the guest speaker of the city’s Economic Development Commission.  About 50 attended the meeting Thursday morning, most of the government officials and business people.

Seitz’s 45-minute presentatition was about initiatives and projects he say will impact the city’s overall economic development.

Seitz’s presentation also included a concern he has about Governor Pence’s recent announcement that he is looking at eliminating the state’s personal property tax for businesses.   Pence is touting the plan as a way to be more competitive with other states in attracting businesses to Indiana.

Seitz told those gathered for today’s EDC meeting that eliminating the tax could cut the city’s revenues by nearly $1.2 million dollars a year, nearly 17 percent of the city’s overall budget.
