Gerald “Jerry” Herbig, 76, Ferdinand

Jerry HerbigGerald “Jerry” Herbig, 76, of Ferdinand, died Friday (December 6) at his home. He was born in Jasper April 10, 1937, to Othmar and Juanita (Goldman) Herbig. He married Barbara Olinger May 28,1960, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.

Jerry was a route salesman for the 7-Up bottling company and a salesman at Marketing & Management Insurance Company, from which he retired after 15 years. He was a member of the Army National Guard, St. Ferdinand Parish and the parish’s St. Joseph’s Sodality, St. Meinrad Knights of Columbus Council 5599, Ferdinand Community Center, and Ferdinand American Legion Post 124.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Herbig; one son, Rick Herbig and wife Ava, Cincinnati; two daughters, Debbie Hoffman and husband Phil, and Sue Herbig, all  of Jasper; three brothers, Tony Herbig, Ferdinand, Ron Herbig, California, and Jim Herbig, Atlanta; four sisters, Marlene Merkel and husband Allen, Jasper, Betty Helming and husband Rich and Janice Berger and husband Albert, all of Ferdinand, and Gloria Nosko and husband Marty, Boonville; and four grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military rites. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7 -9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
