Arthur WanningerArthur L. Wanninger, 84, of Jasper, died Saturday (December 7) at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born December 5, 1929, in Evansville, to Joseph and Irene (Wulf) Wanninger. He married Joan Sermersheim June 26, 1954, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Arthur was a retired electrical engineer from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company where he worked for 30 years. He was a Disabled American Veteran and served in the Army during the Korean War, where he received the Purple Heart for injuries received during combat. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Holy Family Holy Name Society, and American Legion Post #147. He enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, tinkering with electronics, and working on small engines.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Wanninger; three daughters, Patricia Wanninger and fiance Melvin Stenftenagel, Jasper, Carol Jannick and former husband Greg Jannick, Florissant, Missouri, and Julie Walker and husband Dennis, Charlotte, North Carolina; one son, Alan Wanninger and wife Helen Jackson, Lonedell, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Vanessa and Tiffany Woolsey, Amanda Eye, Steven Jannick, Kassandra and Richard Walker, and Sebastian Wanninger; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Emma Eye, and Colton Woolsey; and one brother, Joseph Wanninger and wife Kathy, Jasper.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Wanninger, one brother, Leo Wanninger, and one sister, Helen Roos.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednsday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. The American Legion Post No. 147 color guard will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel.
